Call of Duty enthusiasts are used to getting a new game every year at this point, but for 2016, Activision is releasing two. While Infinite Warfare plans to take players into more science fiction territory than has been previously seen in the series, there appears to be an equal amount of excitement over its companion game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered. For longtime fans who are looking for a nostalgia trip or new players wondering what this updated version of the classic first person shooter is all about, a new trailer released today focusing solely on the single player campaign.
Though the game is still well over a month away, the launch trailer has arrived for the title, revealing a number of the memorable story missions such as Crew Expendable, All Ghillied Up, and Shock and Awe. What’s more impressive in this trailer may be the fact that the game looks phenomenally better, as the trailer highlights the improved lighting effects, updated textures, and smoother animations. According to Activision, players can also expect a smoother framerate, dedicated servers, better audio quality, and other enhancements as well.
Unfortunately for multiplayer fans, the trailer does not feature any footage from that side of the game, choosing to focus solely on the single player campaign. New gameplay was recently released however, as the annual Call of Duty XP event was held in Los Angeles and allowed fans to go hands on with just a small slice of the final package.
Considering the fond memories many gamers have with the original Call of Duty 4, Raven Software is trying to stay as authentic as possible with this remaster. The team is not only adding every single multiplayer map from the original release over time, but also bringing back familiar details such as the original multiplayer announcer as well. A popular move calledstrafe jumping, which has since been removed from more modern Call of Duty titles, is also being restored and should bring a smile to series veterans.
Still, the biggest question many fans have on their minds is whether or not Activision will eventually release this game on its own or if it will be forever linked to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. While rumors have begun to swirl regarding a standalone release, which prompted a subsequent denial by Activision, there’s no doubt a decision like this wouldn’t be made until sometime long after the launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered launches on November 4, 2016 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One provided fans purchase either of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s premium editions.
