Samsung to launch Galaxy Note5 in India next week

Samsung will unveil its Galaxy Note5 flagship phablet in India early next week, likely September 7, according to a source with knowledge of the South Korean giant's plans.

The company will be sending media invites for the unveiling event, which will be held in New Delhi, in the next couple of days. While there is no word on the pricing, it is expected that Galaxy Note5 will be priced above Rs 55,000.

Samsung took the covers off its latest top-end phablet on August 13, where it also introduced the Galaxy S6 edge+. The curved screen phablet was unveiled in India within a week of its global showcasing, priced at Rs 57,900.


Galaxy Note5 comes with a 5.7-inch QHD (1440x2560p) Super AMOLED screen that supports the company's proprietary S Pen stylus. The phablet is powered by Samsung's 64-bit Exynos octa-core (2.1GHz quad-core + 1.5GHz quad-core) processor, backed by 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. Samsung is likely to launch both 32GB and 64GB variants of the smartphone in the country; the handset does not support microSD cards.
The phones run Android 5.1 Lollipop with a new optimised version of Samsung's TouchWiz UI layer.Samsung Galaxy Note5 sports a 16MP rear camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and a 5MP front-facing camera. The device packs a 3,000mAh battery that supports fast-charging on wireless as well as wired chargers.

In terms of connectivity, the latest Samsung phablet supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, MIMO(2x2), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, ANT+, microUSB 2.0, NFC, GPS/GLONASS, and 4G LTE Cat 9 / LTE Cat 6 (differs by market) options. It also has integrated fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor.

According to Samsung, the newly-designed Galaxy Note5 provides a new set of productivity tools such as SideSync, along with a much refined fifth-generation S Pen capabilities for better multitasking.

Samsung claims the Galaxy Note5's new S Pen feels more solid and balanced in the user's hand, offering improved writing capabilities and a variety of tools. It features a clicking mechanism to offer a better experience and users can now quickly jot down ideas or information even when the screen is off without even unlocking the phone. The 'Air Command' feature has also been given an upgrade; now the icon hovers for instant access to all of S Pen tools from any screen at any time. Users can also annotate on PDF files and capture lengthy web articles or long images at once via 'Scroll capture.'

The Note5 ergonomically fits in one hand with a narrower bezel and curved back. The flat screen and the curved shape makes it easier to use the phone with one hand, as per the company.

Microsoft upgrades its Surface tablets to Windows 10

Consumers interested in buying one of Microsoft's Surface tablets will now find it with Windows 10 preinstalled. Microsoft's  online page  for its lower-cost Surface lineup shows that the tablet now comes with Windows 10 Home edition. The page for the pricier and beefier Surface Pro 3  indicates that they're outfitted with Windows 10 Pro edition. Microsoft has been on a tear to push out Windows 10, partly to make up for the poor response to Windows 8 and partly to get as many Windows users as possible all on the same platform.
