Lego Dimensions is almost upon us. The game takes physical LEGO toys and combines them with a universe-mashing video game world, with a range of beloved film franchises from Ghost Busters to Back to the Future.
And all these various universes come crashing together when a mysterious vortex opens up—meaning we’ll finally see what happens when Homer Simpson and Gandalf take on the forces of evil.
The game features a bevy of fantastic voice-actors as well, including a number of major celebrities. Probably the most exciting is Michael J. Fox reprising his role as Marty McFly from Back to the Future, alongside Christopher Lloyd as Doc. Chris Pratt is also back to do both his characters from The Lego Movie and Jurassic World. And Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are voicing Ray and Winston from Ghost Busters. Perhaps best of all is Gary Oldman voicing the villain Lord Vortech.
The entire toys-to-life concept began several years back with Skylanders. The lucrative sector quickly filled with others like Disney Infinity and Nintendo’s amiibo, and it was only a matter of time before LEGO got on the boat. After all, the long-time toymaker has been putting out video games for years.
LEGO has some advantages, obviously, given its track record in both toys and video games even if they are a bit late to the party in this particular genre. Still, with everything from The Simpsons to The Wizard of Oz and The Lord of the Rings available to build and play in, LEGO fans and gamers may finally get the LEGO game we’ve been waiting for.
